The Rise of the Empire
The
shrinking Third Imperium faced much turmoil, many wars and a long series of
disasters during the last 400 years of its existence, and so did many of the
domains surrounding the Imperium. Most sectors suffered during these troubled
centuries, but the reign of Emperor Za’arev (1042-1077) saw the fortunes of the
Imperium change: expansion, stability and economic vitality returned. In 1085,
the sloth-like Third Imperium was re-forged into The Empire when Empress Zoe
ascended the Iridium Throne and placed the Plankwellian crown on her head. The
current ruler, Emperor Rahna-Vor, ascended the Iridium Throne in 1162, and he
is the third Emperor.
Expanding the Empire
Hundreds
of systems have been incorporated into the Empire over the last century, but
much of the frontier remains controlled by minor polities, while other systems
have degenerated into barbarity or isolation. The Imperial Scout Service is
working very hard to properly survey the frontier systems, but a significant
portion of the surveying has been contracted to various chartered businesses
such as Rigellian, Harvey and Sons, and Most Reliable.
The Spinward Marches
The
Empire has established presence along the jump routes of the sector, but not
much further. Many systems are clients, others are hostile while some system
governments remain blissfully unaware. Regina remains the sector capital, as
well as a duchy of the Empire. His Grace Lord Albertus is energetic and
resourceful, but at times his decisiveness leads to what might be seen as
unnecessary conflict.
The
Zhodanis remain a force to be reckoned with beyond the Frontier, but they are
not to be found in the Spinward Marches. There are also no Vargr polities
within the Marches, although many Vargr conduct business in the sector.
